Shannon L. Bybee Award
This annual award was established to commemorate the life and work of Shannon L. Bybee, Past President and friend of the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling, in tribute to his personal commitment, professional dedication, and unselfish support of efforts to proactively address the issue of problem gambling.

Bea Goodwin Aikens has been passionately committed to “helping the compulsive gambler who still suffers,” since her own recovery journey began over 16 years ago. Ms. Aikens was a well-respected and successful businesswoman and community leader when the loss of her beloved sister, Lanie, due to a gambling related overdose changed Bea’s life forever. She now dedicates herself fully to her mission of illuminating and humanizing the disease of compulsive gambling. Founded in 2010, Bea spearheads the advocacy group Lanie’s Hope, a catalyst for social change in problem gambling; dedicated to assuring that those afflicted with disordered gambling receive treatment and services comparable to other addictive disorders.

PURPOSE: To carry on the spirit of Shannon’s role as a mentor for individuals who have demonstrated a personal or professional interest in the field of problem gambling.
ELIGIBILITY: Any professional, student or volunteer who is not employed by the Council and who meets the criteria established for this award, as determined by a committee of the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling.
CRITERIA: Demonstrated personal and/or professional commitment to the field of problem gambling as follows:
| a) | Academic studies, community service, or professional endeavors related to problem gambling. |
| b) | Support of the mission and programs of the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling through volunteer service and community advocacy. |
| c) | Desire to gain broader knowledge and experience related to problem gambling. |
| d) | Compassion for individuals and families affected by problem gambling. |
